Norris tops Austrian GP practice as McLaren set the pace
Lando Norris dominated Saturday’s free practice at the Austrian Grand Prix, setting the fastest lap ahead of McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.
The Briton, determined to bounce back after colliding with Piastri in Montreal, clocked a best time of 1:04.324. Piastri trailed by just 0.118 seconds.
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen finished third for Red Bull, edging Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.
“In these temperatures, the McLarens at high speed are going to be very difficult to match,” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
Piastri briefly ran through the gravel at Turn Nine but recovered to secure second place.
Verstappen’s car required floor repairs late on, while George Russell, winner in Canada, ended the session in sixth.
