Norris embracing Piastri rivalry in McLaren title fight

SHANGHAI,China: Lando Norris is looking forward to a fierce but respectful battle with teammate Oscar Piastri in the Formula One title race, confident that McLaren can handle any internal tensions that may arise.

McLaren secured a dominant one-two finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, with pole-sitter Piastri leading Norris to the checkered flag. The result followed Norris’ victory at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, setting up an exciting intra-team rivalry for the championship.

Norris admitted he lacked the pace to challenge Piastri in Shanghai but was satisfied with second place, especially as he managed brake issues late in the race to hold off Mercedes’ George Russell.

Looking ahead, the Briton expects even closer battles with his Australian teammate.

“I think we’re both excited – probably nervous and excited at the same time – as I’m sure the team will be,” Norris said. “We know that as much as we work together and have a good time, we both want to beat each other and show who’s best. That’s inevitable.”

With McLaren emerging as a genuine title contender, the Norris-Piastri rivalry could shape the 2025 season, adding another thrilling chapter to Formula One.(Reuters)
