Marc Marquez wins Italian MotoGP to complete dominant Mugello weekend

Marc Marquez powered to victory at the Italian MotoGP on Sunday, capping a flawless weekend at Mugello and extending his lead in the world championship standings as he chases a seventh premier-class title.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, riding for Ducati’s factory team, overcame fierce early competition from his brother Alex Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia to clinch his fifth main race win of the 2025 season. Having also won Saturday’s sprint, Marquez takes the maximum 37 points from the weekend and now leads the championship by 40 points over Alex.

“I already understood this morning that it was super special for them (Ducati), even for me because I feel part of them, and yes, super happy,” said Marquez. “I was calm, and then when the tyres dropped a bit, I started to give everything.”

Starting on pole, Marquez didn’t take the lead until lap nine, as he traded positions with Bagnaia and Alex in a thrilling opening phase. Bagnaia, aiming for a fourth straight Mugello win, eventually faded to fourth, overtaken by Fabio Di Giannantonio in the closing laps.

Despite earlier jeers from the crowd during Saturday’s sprint, Marquez received applause on Sunday’s podium—perhaps a reluctant acknowledgment of his dominance this season.

Bagnaia, now 110 points adrift, admitted: “I gave everything. I always give everything. But I finished fourth at home.”
