Marc Marquez triumphs at Aragon, ends three-year winless streak
Marc Marquez delivered a stunning performance at the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday, ending a three-year winless streak with a dominant victory in front of his home crowd. The six-time MotoGP champion crossed the finish line nearly five seconds ahead of Jorge Martin, with rookie Pedro Acosta completing the podium in third.
Marquez, who last tasted victory in 2021, capped off a perfect weekend after winning Saturday’s sprint race by a similar margin on his Ducati satellite Gresini bike. The Spaniard celebrated his long-awaited win with a victory lap, kissing the ground and dancing in front of his ecstatic supporters. “Amazing race,” Marquez said. “It’s incredible to win in front of the fans. With all the pace, it was difficult to focus riding the last 10 laps.”
Jorge Martin, now leading the riders’ standings by 23 points, was gracious in defeat, saying, “I’m happy for Marc, so happy for him after such a long three years.” Francesco Bagnaia, the double world champion, crashed out five laps from the finish, further boosting Marquez’s title hopes.
This victory, Marquez’s first with his new team since switching from Honda, moved him to third in the standings and solidified his place as a contender for a seventh title. After enduring years of injuries and setbacks, Marquez’s triumph at Aragon felt like a new beginning.
