Losail bustling with community activities
THE Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC), the operational wing of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), is going full steam ahead.
Formed last year as a separate entity, the LCSC is carrying out the QMMF’s plans with gusto.
To LCSC goes the credit of making the 5.3km Losail International Circuit a beehive of activities.
Now, the circuit is busy even during the off-season, thanks to a series of community fitness activities, including cycling, walking and running.
LCSC Vice-President and General Manager Khalid Al Remaihi hopes to make the circuit even busier in the coming season.
“We’ve done a lot since the season started in January and that’s not because we’re super humans. All we did is open the track for everyone to come and enjoy. It has been a busy season at the circuit, with a lot of weekends with multiple events. We hope to encourage more people to come to the circuit and bring their families from next year,” said Al Remaihi.
The karting and mini moto track adjacent to the Losail circuit has been drawing more public and Al Remaihi believes it is a positive omen.
“The demand was already there for community initiatives. We just opened the gates and the response was overwhelming. We want to do more for people to enjoy. Of course, it’s good to host World Championships as it raises the profile of the circuit internationally, but at the same time you can’t open these facilities for that single event and keep it closed for the rest of the season.
“You’ve to let people come, enjoy and have fun, relate to it. It’s part of our Corporate Social Responsibility,” he added.
With response to the community activities being very positive, Al Remaihi feels Losail will be hotspot not just for motor sports buffs.
“At the end of the day, if you want to come and watch motor sports, you should do it with your family and kids. With a lot of activities, like karting and mini moto, visitors now have more things to do on the circuit rather than just watch the race. All this is being done to make the facility more welcoming to the families,” Al Remaihi concluded. DSP
