Hamilton bids farewell to Mercedes as Ferrari seeks constructors’ glory

Lewis Hamilton will part ways with Mercedes this weekend, marking the end of a 12-year partnership that yielded six world titles. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will serve as the Briton’s final race with the team before he moves to Ferrari, where he hopes to reignite the form that earned him seven drivers’ championships and a record 105 career victories.

Hamilton’s departure coincides with Ferrari’s quest for their first constructors’ championship since 2008. Entering the season finale, Ferrari trails McLaren by 21 points, requiring a flawless performance to overturn the deficit.

“It’s a celebration of everything we’ve achieved,” said Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. “Nothing can erase the memories of 12 incredible years. We’ll honour this unparalleled story in Abu Dhabi before Lewis begins his next chapter.”

Hamilton, who turns 40 in January, is optimistic about his Ferrari move, which offers a platform to chase an unprecedented eighth world title. “It’s not how you fall, it’s how you get back up,” Hamilton said.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur dismissed concerns over Hamilton’s form, stating, “Just look at his Vegas performance—starting 10th and finishing on Russell’s gearbox.”

While McLaren remains the favorite at Yas Marina, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, fresh off a win in Qatar, will aim for his 10th victory this season as the team bids farewell to sporting director Jonathan Wheatley.
