Dutch Grand Prix to end in 2026, marking end of an iconic era
The Dutch Grand Prix, home to reigning Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen, will come to a close after the 2026 edition, organizers confirmed on Wednesday.
“We have decided to go out on a high with two more incredible Dutch Grands Prix in 2025 and 2026,” said race director Robert van Overdijk in a statement.
Held since 2021 at the Zandvoort circuit on the North Sea coast, the event has become a highlight of the F1 calendar, attracting thousands of orange-clad fans cheering for Verstappen. The Dutchman had won every race at the venue until this year, when McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed victory in challenging weather conditions.
Van Overdijk acknowledged Verstappen’s pivotal role in the Grand Prix’s success. “In my mind, he is the greatest Dutch sporting star ever,” he said, describing the race as “an iconic chapter in Dutch sporting history.”
While there were discussions about rotating with other circuits or continuing annually, organizers opted to end the race after 2026. “We’re going out with a bang. It makes us sad, but above all, we’re proud,” Van Overdijk added.
Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the Dutch GP team for their efforts, saying, “I am incredibly grateful for their work in recent years.”
The 2025 race will take place from August 29-31.
