Coronavirus forces QMMF to cancel Qatar International Rally

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has cancelled the Qatar International Rally, confirmed its executive director Amro Al Hamad.

“With the recent condition it was the wiser condition to go for the cancellation than to postpone and cancel in a date closer to the event due to flying or health restrictions,” said Al Hamad.

The coronavirus pandemic had earlier forced QMMF to indefinitely postpone the rally which was originally scheduled for April 9 to 11.

Earlier, Jordan Rally was also cancelled because of the virus.

Qatar’s 13-time champion Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah leads the championship after winning the opening leg in Oman in February.

The championship is set to resume in Lebanon at the start of September while Rally Cyprus in October will draw curtains to the season.
