Al Naimi leads Qatar Superstock 600 standings
Doha: Mishal Al Naimi edged fierce rival Saeed Al Sulaiti to move to the top of the Qatar Superstock 600 standings after an exciting fourth round at the Losail International Circuit on Saturday.
It was Al Sulaiti who started impressively, winning the first race while Al Naimi had to be content with the last place on the podium, behind Nasser Al Malki.
An eventful second race was red flagged in the very first lap when Soud Al Thani crashed in turn 6. When the race was restarted with just 10 laps, Al Naimi pushed from the beginning to take the lead.
Al Sulaiti passed Al Naimi in the sixth lap but crashed in the penultimate lap, handing his rival the victory. Al Naimi leads Al Sulaiti by one point.
Al Malki finished again in second place while Abdullah Al Qubaisi came third.
“I tried to push from the first lap after the restart of the race I felt better with the bike. But after four laps I had a problem with the tyres and I slowed half a second and it was when Saeed passed me. Overall I am very happy with the results, I am again leading the championship and many thanks to Ooredoo for sponsoring me and to Losail Circuit Sports Club and QMMF for the championship,” said Al Naimi.
In the QSTK Trophy, Essa Al Mutawa won the first race with Soud Al Thani in second and Jassim Al Thani in third.
Al Thani won the second race ahead of Al Mutawa. Kuwaiti rider Mohammad Al Zaidan was third.
QMMF General Secretary Abdulrazak Al Kuwari and Losail Circuit Sports Club CEO Juan Baquero presented the trophies.
The fifth round of Qatar Superstock Championship will take place on April 6 and 7.
