Al-Kuwari and Moore triumph in round 2 of Qatar Off-Road Championship

DOHA: Qatar’s seasoned rally driver Abdulaziz al-Kuwari and his Irish co-driver Lorcan Moore clinched victory in Round 2 of the Qatar Off-Road Championship on Saturday. Representing the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) team, the duo delivered a dominant performance in their Citroen C3, clocking an impressive time of 34:43.5 to top the overall standings.

Close behind were Team Al Kuwari’s Qatari driver Ahmed al-Kuwari and Argentine co-driver Augusto Sanz, who secured second place in their Yamaha YXZ1000R, finishing about six minutes off the pace. Meanwhile, Team QMMF’s Mohammed al-Marri and Polish navigator Giovanni Bernacchini completed the overall podium in third, despite a five-second penalty, driving a Peugeot 208.

In the sub-categories, Ahmed al-Kuwari and Sanz took the Class 1 title, ahead of Abdulla al-Khelaifi and Abdulaziz al-Jabri in second, with Camelia Liparoti and Syndiely Wade claiming third. Class 2 honours went to Nouef al-Sowaidi and Ali Obaid, followed by Alexander Whyatt and Baptiste Cerrato in second and Ahmed Shaheen al-Mohanndi with Taha al-Zadjali in third.

Hassan al-Balooshi and Ali Alajmi won Class 3, while Motab al-Shammari and Bader Alhamdan finished second. In Class 4, Mohammed al-Marri and Bernacchini added another accolade with a class win, followed by Rashid al-Muhannadi and Szymon Gospodarczyk in second, and Saad al-Harqan with Pierre Delorme in third.(Gulf Times)
