Reed fends off late challenge to win Qatar Masters

DOHA: American Patrick Reed clinched the title at the 29th Qatar Masters on Sunday, holding off a strong challenge to finish top of the leaderboard at Doha Golf Club.
Reed posted a total score of 16-under-par to secure victory in the tournament, which began last Thursday and featured 144 professional golfers from 44 countries.
Scotland’s Callum Hill finished second on 14-under-par, while Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen took third place at 13-under-par, tying with American Johannes Veerman.Spain’s Angel Ayora, Finland’s Oliver Lindell, Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg and England’s Dan Bradbury shared fifth place, all carding 12-under-par totals.
A further five players tied for ninth place on 11-under-par: Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, New Zealand’s David Michaluzzi, France’s Antoine Rozner, New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori and South Africa’s Jayden Schaper.
Qatar Golf Federation president Hamad Abdullah Al Mannai praised the championship’s success, highlighting the strength of the field and the high level of competition throughout the week.He said the quality of play enhanced the tournament’s appeal and underlined its status as one of the key events on the DP World Tour.
Al Mannai also credited the Qatar Olympic Committee for its continued support, saying it had played a vital role in elevating the tournament’s global profile.
He added that positive feedback from players and DP World Tour officials reflected Qatar’s organizational standards and its experience in hosting major international sporting events.
