Meronk leads as Qatar’s Al Kaabi, Al Kuwari make the cut

Doha, Qatar: Poland’s Adrian Meronk followed his first round score of 68 with another four under par to emerge as the sole leader after the first two rounds of the Qatar Amateur Open at the Doha Golf Club course on Friday.
Meronk is two shots ahead of compatriot Mateusz Gradecki, who carded an impressive 67 on Friday.
Overnight leaders Swede Niclas Johansson and British Pavan Sagoo are further two shots behind at 140.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Jaham Jassim Al Kuwari and 2017 runner-up Saleh Al Kaabi, were among the top 50 players to have made the cut.
In the amateur category, Dane Mikkel Mathiesen carded 71 to take lead and a share of fifth spot overall with Dutch professional Mike Toorop.
Victor Riu of France carded a superb three under 69 to move to seventh with a total of 143 while two-time Commercial Bank Qatar Masters winner Paul Lawrie’s son Craig carded a two-over 74 to share the 10th spot with Briton Todd Clements.
Morocco’s Ayoub Id Omar, who was the amateur class runner-up last year, is sitting third and has a share of 12th place overall.
Al Kuwari carded 75 while Al Kaabi took one more shot to be tied alongside England’s Jean-Mitchell Hall and German Mike Elliott at 21st place with a total of 150.
