McIlroy managing elbow injury ahead of The Masters

HOUSTON: Rory McIlroy has confirmed he is dealing with an elbow injury as he prepares for next week’s Masters at Augusta. The World No. 2 put together an impressive weekend at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, shooting 65-64 to finish tied for fifth.

McIlroy surged up the leaderboard on Sunday with a front-nine 31, which included an eagle. He added three more birdies before a closing bogey but admitted afterward that his right elbow has been bothering him.

“Get some treatment on that and make sure that that’s OK going into Augusta,” McIlroy told NBC Sports.

With 10 days until the Masters, McIlroy is skipping this week’s Texas Valero Open to rest and fine-tune his game. He also made a minor adjustment to his driver after the third round in Houston, reducing its loft to improve performance in windy conditions.

Despite the elbow discomfort, McIlroy’s form remains strong. His T5 finish in Houston adds to a stellar 2025 season, which already includes two wins and a T4 in Dubai. As he eyes his elusive first green jacket, all attention will be on his fitness heading into Augusta.
