Cabrera-Bello for Qatar Masters

SPANIARD Rafa Cabrera-Bello is the latest big name to confirm participation in the 20th Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, to be held at the Doha Golf Club (DGC) from January 26 to 29.

The 32-year-old Ryder Cup star will be in action at the event for an eighth straight year as he hopes to emulate compatriots Sergio Garcia (2014) and Alvaro Quiros (2009) by lifting the Mother of Pearl Trophy. He had come close to winning last year when he finished joint runner-up with Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen (who is again in the fray this time) and England’s Lee Slattery last year.

“I definitely feel like I can win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. I’ve been very close in the past. I really like the course at the DGC and I know I can do well there. I’m playing well and as long as I remain consistent, I think I have a good chance in Qatar and will certainly give it my best shot,” said Cabrera-Bello.

Earlier, world No.9 Alex Noren of Sweden also confirmed his participation for the European Tour-sanctioned event.

The 34 year old, who first competed at DGC in 2007, recorded a tournament-best finish of fourth in 2013.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s Wang Jeunghun and China’s Li Haotong – first and second in the 2016 European Tour Rookie of the Year standings – are all set to make their debut in the tournament.
