Williamson still committed to Black Caps, says Coach Walter

AUCKLAND: New Zealand’s new head coach Rob Walter has reaffirmed Kane Williamson’s commitment to international cricket, despite the star batsman opting out of the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
Williamson, 34, recently declined a central contract from New Zealand Cricket, allowing him greater flexibility to pursue franchise opportunities, including captaining London Spirit in The Hundred during July and August.
“Myself and Kane have had a long and really positive conversation,” Walter told the New Zealand Herald. “He’s still very committed to the Black Caps and wants to play international cricket. I don’t think it’ll be too long until we see that.”
Williamson stepped down as New Zealand’s white-ball captain after last year’s T20 World Cup but remains a central figure in the team, having featured in the recent Champions Trophy.
New Zealand’s upcoming schedule includes T20s against Australia, limited overs series against England in October, and a home series against the West Indies. Walter said Williamson’s involvement in short-format cricket would be his own decision, adding, “He’ll always be welcomed with open arms.”(Reuters)
