We’re expected to test ourselves against the best, says Pakistan captain Fatima

LAHORE: Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana says her side is eager to test itself against the world’s best teams at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Writing in a column for the ICC, Fatima described the tournament as an opportunity for Pakistan to showcase its talent on the global stage while competing against the strongest players and teams in women’s cricket.
The skipper, who also led Pakistan at the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, said representing the country at a World Cup remains a special experience, bringing together pressure, emotion and unforgettable memories. She added that every cricketer dreams of playing in such moments and expressed her excitement about leading the team once again.
Fatima highlighted the balance within the Pakistan squad, pointing to a healthy mix of youth and experience. She praised senior players such as Muneeba Ali, Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu for their consistent performances and experience in major tournaments.
According to the captain, Pakistan’s preparations have been highly productive, with players showing strong focus and commitment in training. Alongside improving their cricketing skills, the team has also placed significant emphasis on mental preparation and developing the mindset required to perform under pressure.
Fatima believes the team has grown considerably in confidence, clarity and game awareness over recent years. Drawing on lessons learned from previous international tournaments, she said the players are now better equipped to manage key moments in matches and respond effectively in challenging situations.
With the World Cup approaching, the Pakistan captain expressed confidence that the squad is becoming more mature with every series and tournament, and is ready to embrace the challenge of competing against the best teams in the world.
