Washington Sundar ruled out of remaining New Zealand ODIs after injury scare

India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remaining One Day Internationals against New Zealand after suffering an injury during the series opener in Vadodara.Sundar sustained a side strain while New Zealand were batting and did not return to the field for the rest of the innings.

Despite visible discomfort, the 25-year-old later walked out to bat at number eight and played his part in India’s successful chase, remaining unbeaten as the hosts secured a four-wicket victory.

The injury has since been assessed as a rib issue, forcing Sundar to withdraw from the final two matches of the three-ODI series. In his absence, uncapped all-rounder Ayush Badoni has been named as his replacement in the Indian squad, the team management announced on Monday.

India will hope Sundar’s injury is not a long-term concern as they look to maintain momentum in the series against New Zealand.
