Teenage sensation Konstas earns Australia contract in major vote of confidence

MELBOURNE: Teenage batting prodigy Sam Konstas has been added to Australia’s list of contracted players, marking a significant endorsement of his potential. The 19-year-old was named among 23 contracted players on Tuesday, just three months after his impressive 60-run knock on Test debut against India in Melbourne.
Konstas is one of three new faces on Cricket Australia’s central contract list, alongside left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann and all-rounder Beau Webster. Their inclusion comes at the expense of white-ball all-rounders Sean Abbott and Aaron Hardie, as well as Test spinner Todd Murphy.
“In Sam, we see promising upside in a young player who will continue to develop at first-class level and in the international environment,” said chief selector George Bailey.
Kuhnemann’s selection follows his successful return after being cleared of a suspect bowling action. The left-arm spinner shone during Australia’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, claiming 16 wickets and earning the Player of the Series award.
Meanwhile, Tasmania all-rounder Webster has impressed since making his Test debut in Sydney against India. With 150 runs at an average of 50.00 and three wickets in three matches, he has quickly become a valuable asset for Australia’s red-ball squad.
“Matt was outstanding once again in Sri Lanka, and we believe he can play a key role across the next 18 months,” Bailey added.
