Stokes’ injury raises concerns ahead of England’s test series

LONDON: England Test captain Ben Stokes was helped off the field after suffering a potential hamstring injury while playing for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. The 33-year-old all-rounder, while batting against the Manchester Originals at Old Trafford, suddenly pulled up in visible discomfort after completing a single, clutching the back of his left hamstring.

With England’s three-match Test series against Sri Lanka set to begin at Old Trafford on August 21, there are now serious concerns regarding Stokes’ availability.

Superchargers captain Harry Brook acknowledged the severity of the injury, revealing to Sky Sports that Stokes is scheduled for a scan on Monday. The BBC reported that the injury is suspected to be a hamstring issue, which could be a significant blow to England’s Test hopes.
