Samson and Varma shine as India demolish South Africa to clinch T20 series

JOHANNESBURG: Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma delivered scintillating centuries to power India to a commanding 135-run victory over South Africa in Johannesburg on Friday, sealing a 3-1 series triumph in the four-match T20 International series. The result marked South Africa’s heaviest defeat in T20 cricket.

Electing to bat first, world champions India posted an imposing 283/1 in their 20 overs. Samson hammered an unbeaten 109 off 56 balls, his third T20 century in five innings, while Varma smashed 120 not out from just 47 balls, including 10 sixes. Together, the duo forged a record-breaking second-wicket partnership of 210 runs off 85 deliveries, dismantling a lackluster South African bowling attack.

In response, South Africa faltered under the lights and were bundled out for 148, as India’s bowlers executed their plans to perfection.

“It is difficult for me to choose which is the best between the knocks, both of them were brilliant,” India captain Suryakumar Yadav remarked. “We knew there would be something in this wicket when the lights come on and we stuck to our lines with the ball. It is always challenging to win in South Africa, so this is a special day that will stay with me forever.”
