Salt and Chakravarthy combine for Kolkata victory on scorching night

KOLKATA: In a scorching IPL clash at Eden Gardens, Phil Salt’s aggressive 68 and Varun Chakravarthy’s stellar bowling (3-16) powered the Kolkata Knight Riders to a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals.

Chakravarthy’s mystery spin stifled Delhi, restricting them to 153-9 amidst the oppressive heat of the colonial-era capital. Salt’s attacking approach set the tone for Kolkata’s chase, forming a crucial opening stand of 79 with Sunil Narine.

Reflecting on his innings, Salt emphasized the importance of calculated risk-taking, stating, “It is high-risk but it is also about putting the odds in your favour.” Despite the scorching temperatures, fans flocked to the stadium, witnessing Kolkata’s sixth win in nine matches as they edged closer to securing a playoff spot.

Delhi’s batting woes were evident as they struggled to capitalize, with skipper Rishabh Pant acknowledging their shortcomings, admitting, “150 was definitely below par.” Salt’s explosive innings, along with Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s steady contribution, propelled Kolkata to victory in a stark contrast to the previous high-scoring encounter at the venue.
