Root becomes England’s all-time leading run-getter with his 35th Test ton in Multan

MULTAN: Joe Root etched his name in the history books with his 35th Test century, becoming England’s all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket. On a run-filled third day in Multan, Root’s monumental achievement was supported by the sensational Harry Brook, who remained unbeaten on 141*, and Ben Duckett’s gritty 84, as England responded strongly to Pakistan’s 556. By the end of the day, they trailed by only 64 runs.

Brook joined the celebration in the final session, scoring his fourth Test century in as many games in Pakistan. Together, Root and Brook formed an unbreakable 243-run stand, the highest partnership for England in Pakistan, frustrating the hosts’ bowling attack across two dominant sessions. Brook enjoyed some luck on 75 when he narrowly avoided being bowled by Aamer Jamal, while Root had an LBW decision overturned late in the day.

As the second new ball was introduced, Brook completed his sixth Test hundred off 118 balls, while Root cautiously closed in on 150. England’s dominant display with the bat left Pakistan’s bowlers searching for answers, with the newer ball failing to trouble the determined duo.
