Rizwan mulls bowling combination ahead of ODI decider against West Indies

TAROUBA: Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has admitted to a selection dilemma regarding the fifth bowling option as his side prepares for the series-deciding third ODI against the West Indies on Tuesday.

Following a five-wicket loss in the rain-curtailed second ODI on Sunday, Rizwan acknowledged that the part-time bowling duo of Saim Ayub and Salman Agha struggled under pressure, conceding 66 runs in just seven overs without taking a wicket.

“You could say our fifth bowler gave away too many runs, but in recent years, Salman Agha and Saim Ayub have both bowled well for us,” Rizwan said. “Saim didn’t have the best day today, but he performed well in the T20Is. That’s just part of the game.”

Pakistan had set a competitive 171-7 in 37 overs, but the West Indies chased it down with ease to level the three-match series 1-1. Rizwan also pointed to the unpredictable weather and several rain interruptions as factors that disrupted their rhythm.

“Honestly, the weather forecast has been completely different from expectations, and it’s hard to read,” he said. “We’re keeping our options open and will finalise the XI after assessing the conditions.”

Pakistan had earlier clinched the T20I series 2-1 and will look to bounce back with a better-balanced side for the ODI finale.(Reuters)
