Qatar Cricket Association likely to host T10 League

DOHA: The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) has decided to launch its T10 league at the end of this year with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi likely to be the tournament’s brand ambassador.

“We’re delighted to announce that QCA is going to host the professional T10 league at the Asia Town Stadium in Industrial Area. The ICC has given its recognition to the league. I’ve had a meeting with Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi. He has agreed to be the tournament’s brand ambassador,” said QCA President Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari.

The sport has a massive following in the country with the expats from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal often engage in friendly competitions.

“I didn’t know that the expatriates from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal have such a huge passion for it. I feel the T10 league would offer the sport a new fillip,” said Al Kuwari.

The QCA official also hoped that the Qatar Olympic Committee will back them to organise the tournament.

“Whatever we’re doing for sports in Qatar, it is eventually helping the nation get more recognition and praise. We do have the blessings of the QOC, but I’d look forward to strong backing from the QOC and HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani,” added the Qatari official.
