Qatar beat Kuwait in ICC World T20 Asia Qualifier
Doha: Inam-ul-Haq contributed with both bat and ball and led from the front as Qatar defeated hosts Kuwait by 26 runs for their first victory in ICC World T20 Asia Qualifier ‘A’ on Saturday.
Batting first, Qatar made 167 for six in the stipulated 20 overs before restricting Kuwait to 141 for 9. Inam-ul-Haq scored 24 runs and picked up four wickets for 22 runs to emerge as the man of the match.
Javid Khan, who made a whirlwind 48 off just 23 balls and Kamran Khan who scored 49 off 28 balls were the main contributors with the bat for Qatar, who had lost to UAE in the first match.
“It was a vital match and very important win for us today. Both the UAE and Kuwait are the strongest teams in the group and we have played them with 1-1 result,” Qatar team manager Gul Khan Jadoun said.
“All the players put in their 100 percent and we managed to beat Kuwait convincingly. I want to congratulate the team for their fine effort. Also I wish to congratulate Qatar Cricket Association president Yousef Jeham al-Kuwari for his support to the team.
“We still have three more matches to play in the group league. We’ll stay focused on the target and try our best in the tournament,” Jadoun added.
