PCB to host second test against Bangladesh behind closed doors

ISLAMABAD: In a move reminiscent of the COVID-19 era, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second Test match against Bangladesh, scheduled from August 30 to September 3, will be held behind closed doors at the National Stadium in Karachi. The decision comes as ongoing construction work at the venue intensifies ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy set for early next year.

The PCB emphasized that this difficult decision was taken to prioritize the health and safety of fans amidst the construction activities. “We understand the vital role that our passionate spectators play in cricket, providing inspiration and motivation to our players. However, the health and safety of our fans is our utmost priority,” the board stated in an official release.

As a result, ticket sales for the match have been suspended, with the PCB assuring fans that those who have already purchased tickets will receive full refunds automatically. The refunds will be processed directly to the account details provided at the time of purchase.

“While we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause, we want to assure our valued fans that the ongoing stadium upgrades are aimed at enhancing their experience. The renovations are part of our commitment to making the venue more spectator-friendly and preparing it for the Champions Trophy,” the PCB added.

Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh will kick off with the first Test in Rawalpindi on August 21, before the teams head to Karachi for the second and final Test.
