New Zealand stuns India for historic 3-0 Test series sweep
Ajaz Patel took six wickets as New Zealand secured a historic 3-0 Test series sweep over India with a tense 25-run victory in the third Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing 147, India folded for 121 in 29.1 overs on day three, despite a fighting 64 from Rishabh Pant. Patel celebrated as he bowled Washington Sundar for the final wicket, marking New Zealand’s first-ever Test series win on Indian soil.
The loss was India’s first home Test series sweep since South Africa’s 2-0 victory in 1999-2000 and their first 3-0 defeat on home turf. “This will be a very low point in my career, having lost three games at home,” said India captain Rohit Sharma. “I fully take responsibility…I have not been at the best of my abilities.”
New Zealand excelled under new captain Tom Latham, despite missing Kane Williamson. “Very ecstatic,” said Latham. “The boys have done a fantastic job over the last three Test matches.”
After reducing India to 29-5, Patel dismissed Pant post-lunch, sparking controversy as Rohit expressed doubts over the review decision. “I don’t know how that decision was overturned,” he remarked.
Will Young, scoring 71 and 51, was named player of the series for his 244 runs.
