Marsh returns to captain Australia in West Indies T20 series

Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia in their upcoming five-match T20 series against the West Indies, marking his return from a back injury. The 32-year-old all-rounder, who missed the Pakistan series, leads a 16-man squad named on Wednesday that includes several changes.

Explosive batter Mitchell Owen received his first international call-up after a standout Big Bash League season, where he topped the run charts and struck a match-winning 108 off 42 balls in the final.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood returns after being rested last November, while left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is included in the T20 squad for the first time.

Notably absent are Test and ODI regulars Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Mitchell Starc, who will return home after the Test series against the West Indies.

Chairman of selectors George Bailey said the squad is being refined ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. “This is a great chance to test our depth,” Bailey said.

The series begins on July 20 in Kingston, Jamaica.
