Maphaka set for test debut as South Africa makes key changes for Second test against Pakistan

CAPE TOWN: South Africa is set to unleash 18-year-old fast bowler Kwena Maphaka in the second and final Test against Pakistan at Newlands, starting Friday. The teenager, who was still sitting for his school exams just months ago, has been named in a revamped Proteas lineup that features three changes from the team that claimed a narrow two-wicket victory in Pretoria last week.

Maphaka, with just 60.5 overs of first-class cricket experience, replaces Dane Paterson, despite the latter’s impressive 5-61 in the first innings at Centurion Park. Captain Temba Bavuma explained the rationale behind the change: “We want to go with an extra bit of pace, even though Paterson has been superb for us.”

South Africa’s opening batter Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out due to a left thigh strain. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder steps in, taking the number three spot, while Ryan Rickelton will shift to the opener position.

Additionally, spinner Keshav Maharaj has returned from injury to take the place of debutant Corbin Bosch, who played a pivotal role in the first Test win.
