Livingstone’s heroics square series as England chase down 329 to defeat West Indies
ANTIGUA: In a thrilling ODI match in Antigua, England captain Liam Livingstone produced a spectacular century to lead his team to a five-wicket victory over the West Indies, squaring the three-match series at 1-1. Set an imposing target of 329 to keep their hopes alive, Livingstone’s unbeaten 124 off 85 balls, featuring nine massive sixes, powered England to a perfectly timed chase.
The West Indies had looked in command, bolstered by Shai Hope’s brilliant 117 and a late surge that added 93 runs in the final 10 overs. England’s nine-bowler approach couldn’t contain the hosts as they posted a formidable total.
Facing pressure at 160-4 after 28 overs, Livingstone found a crucial partner in Sam Curran, whose run-a-ball 52 kept England in the hunt. With 100 runs still required in the last 10 overs, Livingstone shifted gears, dispatching several massive sixes off wayward West Indies deliveries to reach his maiden ODI century.
Livingstone sealed England’s victory with 15 balls to spare, taking 22 runs off Shamar Joseph in the 47th over to all but secure the win. His final single clinched the chase, setting up a series decider and showcasing his prowess under pressure.(Reuters)
