IPL’s business value soars to $18.5 billion as Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerge wealthiest franchise

The Indian Premier League’s business value has surged to $18.5 billion, cementing its place as the world’s richest cricket tournament, according to a report by US investment bank Houlihan Lokey. The 10-team league, which concluded its 18th edition in June, saw a 13.8% jump in brand value to $3.9 billion over the past year.
Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who lifted their maiden IPL title this season with Virat Kohli in their ranks, have overtaken traditional powerhouses Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to become the league’s most valuable franchise at $269 million. Mumbai stand second at $242 million, while Chennai are valued at $235 million.
“The IPL continues to set benchmarks in sports business,” said Harsh Talikoti of Houlihan Lokey. “Franchise valuations have soared, media rights deals have reached record highs, and brand partnerships have diversified across sectors.”
Bengaluru’s triumph over Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad attracted massive audiences, with the 2025 final drawing over 678 million views on JioHotstar—surpassing even the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy clash earlier this year.
Since its 2008 launch, the IPL’s glitzy blend of cricket and entertainment has inspired other franchise leagues across sports and regions.
