IPL: Pant inspires Delhi to dominant victory over Gujarat

Ahmedabad (India) – Skipper Rishabh Pant helped Delhi Capitals deliver a dominant performance against the Gujarat Titans, securing a commanding six-wicket victory in their Indian Premier League clash in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The match saw Gujarat Titans endure a dismal outing at home, posting their lowest IPL total of 89 runs. Medium-pace bowler Mukesh Kumar emerged as the standout performer, claiming figures of 3-14 to dismantle Gujarat’s batting lineup in just 17.3 overs.

In pursuit of their modest target, Delhi Capitals wasted no time in their chase, reaching the required total in a mere 8.5 overs, showcasing their batting prowess and determination. Despite the absence of the injured David Warner, Delhi Capitals exhibited resilience and cohesion to register their third win of the season, ascending three places to sixth in the 10-team IPL table.

Pant, who returned to this year’s IPL following a harrowing car accident, played a pivotal role in his team’s victory, remaining unbeaten on 16 runs. Pant’s leadership on the field and his valuable contributions with the bat underscored his importance to the Delhi Capitals’ campaign. Reflecting on the team’s performance, he expressed his satisfaction, saying: “Lots of things to be pleased about. We spoke about champion mindset and our team spoke about it.”

Speaking about his recent performances, Pant added: “The only thought process before coming to the field is that I wanted to come in a better way, that’s the only thought when I was going through my rehab. Each and every match I am loving the process and being on the ground.”

Pant’s remarkable comeback after his recovery with some stellar performances in the IPL, including two half-centuries, has bolstered his credentials for a potential return to the T20 World Cup in June.

The match also witnessed impressive fielding displays from Delhi Capitals, with Pant showcasing his agility behind the stumps. Notable contributions came from Ishant Sharma, who dismissed Gujarat captain Shubman Gill early in the innings, and Sumit Kumar, whose direct throw led to the run-out of Sai Sudarshan. Pant’s adept wicketkeeping skills were on full display as he executed two stumpings off South African spinner Tristan Stubbs, contributing to Gujarat’s batting collapse.

Despite a gritty innings from Rashid Khan, who scored 31 runs off 24 balls, Gujarat Titans struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for a paltry total.
