Head’s unbeaten 154 leads Australia to stunning win over England in ODI opener

NOTTINGHAM, England: Travis Head powered Australia to a commanding victory over England in the first One Day International (ODI) of their five-match series at Trent Bridge on Thursday. Australia chased down a formidable target of 316 with ease, reaching 317-3 with six overs to spare, securing a seven-wicket win.

Head’s unbeaten 154, his highest ODI score, came off just 129 balls and featured 20 fours and five sixes. He was well-supported by Marnus Labuschagne, who remained not out on 77 as the pair guided Australia to their 13th successive ODI win. It was also Australia’s sixth consecutive victory over England, despite a depleted squad due to illness and injury.

Earlier, Australia bowled England out for 315 in 49.4 overs, with Ben Duckett top-scoring for the hosts with 95. Will Jacks contributed 62 in a brisk start, as the pair put on 120 for the second wicket. England looked set for an imposing total at 213-2 by the 33rd over, but Australia’s bowlers pulled back momentum in the final stages.
