Head’s all-round performance seals ODI series for Australia

BRISTOL, England: Travis Head’s superb all-round performance helped Australia clinch the One-Day International (ODI) series 3-2 against England with a 49-run win via the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method in Bristol on Sunday. Head’s 4-28 with the ball played a key role in restricting England, while Australia’s rapid response with the bat ensured they were ahead when rain intervened.

Chasing England’s 309 all out, Australia were comfortably placed at 165 for two after 20.4 overs, four balls beyond the threshold required to constitute a match. Persistent rain then forced the umpires to call off play, handing Australia the series victory.

Earlier, England had made a strong start after being sent in to bat, with Ben Duckett smashing 107. However, Australia’s spinners, led by Head, stalled England’s momentum after they had been 202 for two midway through their innings.

In response, Australia aggressively chased the target, clearing the boundary nine times before rain halted the action. Having led the series 2-0, Australia allowed England to level the contest with victories in the third and fourth matches, but the visitors ultimately prevailed in a fascinating decider.
