Gillespie resigns as Pakistan test coach; Aqib Javed named interim red ball coach

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Aqib Javed as the interim head coach for the national Test team ahead of the two-match series in South Africa. Aqib, who currently serves as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, will take charge following the sudden resignation of Jason Gillespie.

Gillespie, the former Australian fast bowler, stepped down from his role as Pakistan’s Test team head coach on December 12, just eight months after his appointment in April. The PCB expressed gratitude for his contributions during his tenure but did not elaborate on the reasons behind his departure.

Aqib Javed brings a wealth of experience to the role, having successfully guided Pakistan’s white-ball teams in recent years. His appointment reflects the PCB’s confidence in his ability to transition smoothly into the Test arena and maintain the team’s momentum during this crucial series.
