England’s Topley fined for outburst following injury setback in T20 against West Indies
BRIDGETOWN: England pacer Reece Topley has been fined 15% of his match fee after an emotional outburst following an injury in the first T20 International against West Indies at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. Topley, who jarred his knee while bowling, had to leave the field and subsequently missed the second match due to the injury.
In a moment of frustration, Topley smashed a chair against the handrail of the pavilion staircase as he made his way off the field. The International Cricket Council (ICC) responded to the incident on Wednesday, penalizing him for breaching the code of conduct under the article addressing the “abuse of cricket equipment or fixtures and fittings.”
Alongside the fine, Topley received one demerit point. Under ICC regulations, four or more demerit points within a 24-month period lead to suspension points, which could result in a temporary ban. The incident underscores the challenges Topley has faced with injuries throughout his career, with this latest setback adding to his frustration on the international stage.
