Delhi Capitals break Lucknow Super Giants’ grip with commanding win

LUCKNOW: In a thrilling encounter in Lucknow, the Delhi Capitals brought an end to the Lucknow Super Giants’ dominance in defending 160-plus scores, while simultaneously catapulting themselves off the bottom of the IPL 2024 table with a commanding six-wicket victory.

Kuldeep Yadav, returning from injury, was the catalyst for Delhi’s resurgence, wreaking havoc on the Lucknow batting lineup with a sensational spell. His early strikes dismantled Lucknow’s top order, leaving them reeling at 77 for 5 despite a promising start provided by KL Rahul.

Although Lucknow managed to post a respectable total, thanks in large part to Ayush Badoni’s blistering fifty and an exceptional partnership with Arshad Khan, Delhi remained undeterred.

Prithvi Shaw laid the foundation for the chase with a brisk start, setting the stage for Jake Fraser-McGurk to make a memorable IPL debut. The Australian youngster announced his arrival with a breathtaking half-century, smashing the ball to all parts of the ground and steering Delhi towards victory with style.

Despite the departure of Shaw and Rishabh Pant, Fraser-McGurk’s heroics ensured Delhi’s triumph with 11 balls to spare, marking a remarkable turnaround for a team that had previously struggled to find its footing in the tournament.
