De Zorzi, Stubbs centuries put South Africa in control after day one

Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs dominated the opening day of the second Test in Chattogram, lifting South Africa to a commanding 307-2 against Bangladesh. After winning the toss, South Africa’s decision to bat first on a favorable pitch paid off as both de Zorzi and Stubbs recorded their maiden Test centuries in a solid 201-run partnership for the second wicket.

De Zorzi closed the day unbeaten on 141, including ten boundaries and three sixes, while Stubbs contributed a well-paced 106 before being bowled by Taijul Islam. Stubbs reached his century in a disciplined innings, taking 194 balls and marking the milestone with a single off Mominul Haque. Taijul, Bangladesh’s sole breakthrough, dismissed Aiden Markram for 33 in the morning and later ended Stubbs’ knock with a well-placed delivery.

Bangladesh, struggling to contain the visitors, exhausted two of their three reviews on unsuccessful appeals against De Zorzi and Stubbs. The hosts made three changes for the match, handing a debut to wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Ankon, while South Africa brought in Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Paterson to push for a series sweep after winning the first Test in Mirpur.
