David heroics power Australia to victory over South Africa in first T20I

DARWIN: Australia kicked off their T20I series against South Africa with a 17-run win in the opening match at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Sunday.
South Africa captain Aiden Markram opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and his decision looked justified early on as the Australian top order crumbled to 30 for 3. However, Tim David turned the tide with a blistering counterattack, hammering 83 off 52 balls, including 4 fours and 8 sixes, to lift Australia to a total of 178 all out.
Kwena Maphaka starred with the ball for the Proteas, claiming impressive figures of 4 for 20.
In reply, Ryan Rickelton led South Africa’s charge with a gritty 71 off 55 deliveries, but lacked support from the other end. The visitors ultimately managed 161, falling short by 17 runs.
Australia now lead the three-match series 1-0.
