David credits team trust for Australia’s explosive T20 form

DARWIN: Australia’s T20 squad is embracing an all-out attacking philosophy, with middle-order powerhouse Tim David confident that the fearless strategy will remain a hallmark of their game.

David, who hammered a match-winning 83 off 53 balls in the first T20I against South Africa on Sunday, said the team’s batting group has built strong trust with their coaches, who allow them to express themselves freely on the field.

“We’ve been playing together as a group now for a while, so there’s not a great deal of instruction from the coaches,” said David after Australia secured a 17-run win and a record ninth straight T20I victory. “They trust the players. We trust ourselves to go out there and we understand the game situation.”

Australia’s high-risk, high-reward strategy was on full display in Darwin, where David’s power-hitting dismantled South Africa’s bowling attack. He believes the aggressive mindset suits the team best.

“If you’d watched our guys bat over the last period, wherever they play, it’s close to all guns blazing. You can probably expect to see that a little bit from our team.”

David’s rich vein of form continues, with 215 runs in his last three T20Is, including a blistering 37-ball century against the West Indies in July.
