Chase retires out as Pakistan clinch T20I series against West Indies

LAUDERHILL: Roston Chase created history on Sunday by becoming the first batter to retire out in a men’s T20 International between two Full Member teams. The unusual moment came during West Indies’ tense chase of 190 in the series decider against Pakistan in Lauderhill, where the visitors sealed a narrow 13-run win and a 2-1 series victory.

Pakistan’s triumph marked their seventh consecutive bilateral T20I series win over West Indies. Powered by a blistering 138-run opening stand between Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan, Pakistan posted a formidable total. Despite a mid-innings slowdown, they finished strongly to set the hosts a stiff target.

West Indies made a bright start, with Alick Athanaze smashing a 40-ball 60, but the momentum dipped after his dismissal, leaving them at 110 for 3 after 13 overs. With the equation reading 80 needed off 42 balls, Sherfane Rutherford injected urgency, but Chase struggled to find rhythm, managing just 15 off 12 deliveries.

In a bold tactical move, Chase was retired out, with 41 needed from the final 18 balls. However, the decision wasn’t enough to reverse the tide, as West Indies fell short, managing just 27 more runs and handing Pakistan the series.
