Chase named West Indies Test captain, succeeds Brathwaite

BARBADOS: Roston Chase has been appointed captain of the West Indies Test team, replacing Kraigg Brathwaite, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Friday. The 33-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder takes the reins after an extensive selection process that included psychometric testing to assess leadership style.

Chase, who last played a Test in March 2023, was chosen from a shortlist that featured John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, and Jomel Warrican. Warrican has been named vice-captain, while current white-ball skipper Shai Hope opted out of consideration for the Test role.

“I fully endorse this appointment,” said head coach Daren Sammy. “Our new captain has earned the respect of his peers, understands the responsibility, and has shown the leadership qualities we need to move forward. I urge fans across the region to rally behind him—we’re building something special.”

Chase will begin his tenure with a three-match home series against Australia, starting June 25.
