BCCI appoints Bahutule as India’s spin-bowling coach

MUMBAI: Former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule has been appointed by the BCCI as the men’s national team’s spin-bowling coach ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, which begins on Saturday.
Bahutule brings extensive coaching experience across domestic, pathway and international cricket. During his coaching career, he has served as head coach of Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat and Bengal, earning a reputation as one of India’s respected cricket mentors.
The former spinner has also worked with IPL franchises, including Rajasthan Royals and most recently Punjab Kings during IPL 2026. His expertise in developing spin bowlers and nurturing young talent has made him a valuable addition to various coaching setups.
At the international level, Bahutule played a key role in India’s successful youth programs. He was the bowling coach of India’s ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup-winning team in 2022 and was also part of the support staff for the 2024 edition of the tournament.
His appointment comes as India prepare for their return to red-ball cricket against Afghanistan, with Bahutule expected to work closely with the team’s spin attack during the upcoming assignment.
