Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup squad: A mix of experience and emerging talent

DHAKA:Bangladesh’s recent 4-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the T20I series at home not only showcased their dominance but also provided a platform for announcing their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The squad, headlined by the return of seasoned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, reflects a blend of experience and emerging talent.

Shakib’s comeback to T20I cricket after a hiatus of nearly a year was marked by a stellar performance, clinching a four-wicket haul in the fourth game against Zimbabwe. His inclusion in the squad adds depth and expertise to Bangladesh’s lineup.

While there were no major surprises in the squad, the selection of young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent. Sakib’s promising performance in the series against Zimbabwe earned him a spot in the squad, highlighting the selectors’ confidence in his abilities.

Another notable inclusion is left-arm quick Shoriful Islam, who was rested for the final two matches against Zimbabwe. His presence bolsters Bangladesh’s pace attack and provides versatility to the bowling unit.

The squad also features Afif Hossain Dhrubo and Hasan Mahmud as reserves, offering depth and options in case of any contingencies during the tournament.

Bangladesh finds itself in Group D alongside formidable opponents like South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal for the T20 World Cup. Their campaign kicks off with a clash against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7th.
