Bangladesh appoint Simmons as new men’s national team coach

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons as the new coach of the men’s national team. Simmons, 61, will lead the team on a short-term contract running until next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.

His appointment comes after the suspension of former coach Chandika Hathurusingha on disciplinary grounds.

According to BCB president Faruque Ahmed, Hathurusingha faced two misconduct charges, including an alleged assault on a player and taking excessive leave beyond his contractual obligations. Simmons’ vast coaching experience is expected to provide stability ahead of Bangladesh’s major tournaments next year.
