Australia bounce back with 10-wicket win over India in Adelaide
ADELAIDE: Australia roared back into the five-match Test series against India with a crushing 10-wicket victory at Adelaide, reaffirming their dominance at the iconic venue. The win propelled the hosts back to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, a remarkable turnaround after their humbling loss in the series opener in Perth.
The Adelaide Oval, Australia’s fortress under lights, witnessed another masterclass as Pat Cummins’ men dismantled a full-strength Indian team, bolstered by the return of captain Rohit Sharma and opener Shubman Gill. Despite this, the visitors crumbled in just over two days, leaving the series level at 1-1.
The charge was spearheaded by Mitchell Starc, whose mastery with the pink ball yielded an outstanding 6-48 in the first innings. His spell proved fatal for India’s batting order, including key wickets of Perth centurions Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli.
In the second innings, Pat Cummins led by example, taking 5-57 and decimating India’s lower order. Yet, the game-changing knock came from Travis Head, whose blistering 140 off nearly a run-a-ball left India reeling.
Australia’s emphatic win underscores their unbroken 8-0 record in day-night Tests at Adelaide, solidifying their reputation at the venue. With the series finely poised, both teams will look to carry momentum into the third Test.
