U21 Nations League: Qatar 3×3 teams depart for China

DOHA: The Qatar U21 men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball teams have departed for Tangshan, People’s Republic of China, to take part in the opening round of the FIBA 3×3 U21 Nations League 2026 – Asia-1, scheduled from July 6 to 8, 2026.

This continental stop represents a key milestone in the development pathway of 3×3 basketball across youth categories in Asia.

This participation aligns with the International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) vision to expand the reach of the sport and nurture young talent through competitive platforms that provide high-level exposure to diverse Asian basketball schools. The initiative aims to prepare a generation capable of reaching global podiums in the discipline.

The current edition of the Nations League carries added significance as it serves as one of the qualifying stages for the FIBA 3×3 U21 World Cup, set to be held in Wuhan, China, from September 15 to 19, 2026.

Results from these competitions will shape the qualification map and enhance teams’ chances of advancing to the world stage.

The men’s squad features players Sultan Abouissa, Fahad Al-Awjan, Mostafa Ndaw, Omar Ahmed, and Ghassan Hajar, under the technical guidance of head coach Bramir Berbakov, supported by fitness coach Marko Sisom, who oversees the players’ physical preparation throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, the women’s team will compete in the same event with players Sama Jasser, Tania Tawil, Sara Bukhit, and Tala Tawil, led by Lebanese coach Rana Bzazou, who directs the team’s technical and tactical development as part of a comprehensive program to elevate the competitiveness of Qatar’s women’s 3×3 basketball.
