QBF holds important meeting with heads of sports clubs

DOHA: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) convened a meeting with sports clubs’ leaders. Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, the Secretary General of the Federation, presided over the meeting. Also present was the national team coach, Thanasis Skortopoulos.

The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen collaboration and coordination between QBF and the clubs in order to attain optimal outcomes both domestically and internationally.

Periodic system

Al Kuwari initiated the meeting by presenting an overview of the fresh league system, elucidating the general structure of the league competition, the number of participating teams, and the method of their distribution. He emphasized that the league competition will commence on December 13, with the involvement of nine teams: Al Arabi, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Gharafa, Al Khor, Al Ahli, Qatar SC, Al Wakrah, and Al Shamal.

The competitions will be conducted in a two-round league system, wherein the top eight teams will qualify for the playoff matches, while the team in ninth place will be excluded.

In the initial playoff stage, the team in first place will face the team in eighth place, the team in second place will compete against the team in seventh place, the team in third place will confront the team in sixth place, and the team in fourth place will play against the team in fifth place.

The four victorious teams will advance to the second stage, which comprises the semi-finals, and will proceed with the same system until the final match. The final match will be conducted in a three-match system to determine the season champion.

Al Kuwari emphasized that the new modifications aim to enhance the level of competition and nurture players. He highlighted the significance of these amendments in promoting fair play and providing greater opportunities for young players to showcase their skills.

Civilized and fruitful discussions

The meeting witnessed civilized and fruitful discussions between club officials, who stressed that the goal was to achieve the public interest, whether for the clubs or the teams.

The federation officials listened to all the opinions and proposals presented by club officials with great pleasure, stressing that these opinions will be welcomed by the Federation family and will be discussed during QBF Board of Directors meeting to achieve the general interest of all.

QBF also revealed the calendar for the new season 2024-2025, setting the start dates for the local tournaments. The season will start with the Qatar Cup competition starting October 19 and continue until October 29, 2024.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari extended his thanks and appreciation to the heads of the agencies for their presence and positive interaction, stressing the importance of this cooperation in achieving the desired goals and raising the banner of national sports in various forums.
