Qatar meet Slovenia in quarterfinals
Nantes, France: Qatar will take on Slovenia in FIBA 3×3 World Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday after finishing second in the Pool C behind leaders Ukraine.
After going down to Ukraine 20-21 in a tight finish in the first match, Qatar returned and crushed Sri Lanka 20-4 for their third victory and advanced to the last eight stage.
The quarterfinal line-ups include Serbia vs USA, Slovenia vs Qatar and Russia vs Netherlands. Ukraine are likely to face either France or the Philippines for a final four berth.
Abdulrahman Saad turned out to be the leading scorer for Qatar, with his tally of 29 points placing him fifth on the list of the best scorers of the event. Serbian duo of Dusan Dumovic Bulut and Dejan Majstorovic are on the top with 34 points each.
Veteran player Tanguy Ngombo has 22 points while newcomer Fadi Hani Abilmona collected 17 points in four matches so far. Qatari skipper and defender Erfan Ali Saeed contributed 11.
