Manama suffer second loss in WASL Final 8 championship

Doha, Qatar: Bahrain’s Manama team, the champion of the first edition, lost the opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) Final 8 2024, after suffering their second loss in their Group A game against BC Astana yesterday.

The Bahraini team were beaten 122-117 in overtime by the Kazakhstan side in a thrilling and closely-contested game.

The second edition of the West Asian Basketball Super League “Final 8, is being hosted by Doha for the first time.

The Manama team lost the first round match to the Lebanon’s Sagesse 82-95 while Al Riyadi of Lebanon defeated BC Astana 101-69 in their first game of Group A.

On the other hand, the Kuwaiti team is looking to outrightly top Group B after holding the joint-top position with Iran’s Shahrdary Gorgan when the two teams face off at 9:00 pm today at the conclusion of the matches of the third and final round of the group stage of the finals of tournament.

Kuwaiti and Gorgan enter today’s match with four points each, after Kuwaiti defeated compatriot Kazma 99-95 while and Shahrdary beat India’s Tamil Nadu 104-91.

Kazma and Tamil Nadu teams have two points each.

Kazma will meet Tamil Nadu in the third and final game of the group at 6:00 pm today.
